TAB KIDS CHURCH

Tab Kids CHURCH? Yes!  At Tab Kids Church (TKC) we believe children should be able to experience the same growth in their faith and understanding of God’s love that people do in the main service but in a relevant, age appropriate way. Each week we aim to inspire children through creating what we call a ‘Fun Filled Faith’ environment.

Your children aren’t just being babysat. They are learning about the person and principles of Jesus in a safe and creative atmosphere of love, joy and FUN! Through energetic teaching, worship, video, sketches, songs and much more, our aim is for children to leave TKC every Sunday with happy memories of church and knowing that they are loved and valued by God.

HOW IT WORKS

All TKC clubs run from 9.15am to 11.45 am and we cater for children from a wide age range through three clubs:

Rainbow          2 - 4 years old
Cedar              5 – 7 Years old
Rising Stars    8 – 11 Years old

Our Rainbow club is held upstairs in the main hall on the first floor, of the Tab Church Building, Algernon Road. Both our Cedar and Rising Stars (primary age) clubs are based just around the corner at our special TKC spaces in Prendergast Vale School, just a five-minute walk from The Tab.

Check-in

Your child is important to us. On your first visit, we need the following personal information: parent/legal guardian names, children’s names and birthdates, address, phone number and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for each child. This information is entered into our TKC database to help maintain our secure check-in system.

Safety

Your child’s safety is our first priority. All TKC volunteers pass a Home Office Disclosures and Barring Service (DBS) background check, and have a member of our security team present to ensure your child’s safety. We use a security tag system for child check-in and pick-up, and a paging system for parents/guardians in case we need to reach you during service.  For more information on our safeguarding policies, please speak to a member of the TKC team.  We’ll also give you a TKC starter pack when your child visits us for the first time.

FAQs

What time is TKC?

TKC takes place during the Sunday first morning worship service, 9.15am to 11.45 am

What curriculum do you use?

Our curriculum is Fun Filled Faith based which is designed to engage the children while teaching at the same time. Our programming is intended to involve children in age-appropriate activities, interactive learning opportunities and safe, clean fun! We provide teaching in an atmosphere of love and acceptance where children are given opportunities to practice the truths they are learning in ways that make sense to them.

Is there a cost?

There is no cost for TKC. However, we have an annual summer activities week so if you are able to sponsor a child for this, donations can be made online or handed into the Tab Information Point.

How do I register my child for TKC?

On your first visit, we need the following personal information: Parent/legal guardian names, children’s names and birthdates, address, phone number and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for each child. This information is entered into our TKC database to help maintain our secure check-in system.

What’s the procedure for dropping off and picking up the children?

We require that parents and guardians escort their children into the Fellowship Hall (First Floor) or the reception of Prendergast Vale School to check in their child and “handoff” to the designated club leader at the TKC Welcome Station.

After church parents should pick up their children promptly. Children will not be allowed to leave the building without a parent or designated adult.

What are your security procedures?

Both you and your child will receive a matching code number, printed on your child’s nametag and on your parent/guardian receipt at the time of check-in on Sunday mornings at the TKC Welcome Station. Upon check-out, receipts are monitored to ensure that each child is leaving with his/her appropriate adult.

Parents and other adults who do not have a matching code will not be allowed to leave with their child until their identity has been proven and cleared at the TKC Welcome Station.

NOTE:  You may wish to arrive 10-15 minutes early on your first visit to allow time to complete the check-in procedure for first time guests and to get your children settled before the start of the adult Tab service.

How large are the classes and which ages do they encompass?

Class sizes are capped at a maximum of 30 and each Sunday, we operate a first come first served policy.

Our current age groupings are:

  • 2 – 4 years old
  • 5 - 7 Years old
  • 8 – 11 Years old

How are parents involved in the sessions?

TKC is a collective effort which depends upon volunteers to staff our initiatives. Parents can volunteer to share a particular skill such as writing, music, art, science, gardening, etc.

What should my child wear?

TKC kids have fun when they come to church!  Your child may want to dress in clothes that are comfortable and will enable him/her to participate in games, crafts and activities without concern of “ruining” an outfit.

Will my child need a Bible?

Your child is welcome to bring his/her Bible.  However, Bibles are provided in each room to enable all children to participate.

Does TKC meet year-round?

TKC runs on a term basis with breaks during Christmas, Easter and August.

Does my child need to bring anything with them to TKC?

We strongly suggest your child comes with a small, healthy packed lunch. Please label all items with your child’s name.

Where can I get a copy of your safeguarding policies?

All of our policies and procedures are shared with parents and guardians once your child is registered. You may also request a copy of our policies by emailing Myrna Cross, Head of TKC, at

What is your policy on photography?

Periodically we take pictures of the children for TKC use, general promotion materials for the church, including the church website. Your consent for this will be sought when you register your child.

Who Can Volunteer at TKC?

Anyone wishing to serve as a regular volunteer in the TKC Ministry must be a member of The Tab Church, complete the Essentials Ministry Volunteers course and must undergo a Home Office DBS background check prior to serving.

All of the information and results acquired for/from the background checks are confidentially secured by our Head of Safeguarding, Elder Sharon Grant.

If you have further questions, comments or would like to volunteer please contact Myrna Cross, Head of TKC, at
